Message from the President
Dear Trojan Family:
In 1986, I earned my undergraduate degree from the Marshall School of Business. Wanting to build on my USC education, I returned to campus and earned my MBA in 1992, and upon graduation my USC volunteer career began. Twenty-three years later, I am honored and privileged to serve as the president of the USC Alumni Association Board of Governors.
Under the leadership of President Nikias, USC continues on the path to become a premier global research university and is blazing new trails during its current $6 billion Campaign for the University of Southern California.
With the rise of Troy in U.S. News & World Report’s national rankings over the last two decades, our degrees are worth more today than when many of us graduated. While student selectivity is part of these rankings (in USC’s Class of 2019, 51,920 freshman hopefuls applied and competed for only 3,098 spots), so is the percentage of undergraduate alumni who donate to their alma mater.
For the last few years, USC has led the Pac-12 in undergraduate alumni giving participation, and this year 41% of undergraduate alumni donated $1 or more to USC. This is wonderful, but I know we can do better after all, we are ‘SC! So, one of our goals this year is to increase our alumni participation rate, and to accomplish this we need your help.
In the spring of 2016, the university will launch the inaugural USC Alumni Day of SCupport, which seeks to increase the number and percentage of undergraduate alumni donating to USC. This special day will be everyone’s opportunity to give a gift to advance USC and enhance our degrees. And a gift of any size is meaningful! With $4.5 billion already raised towards USC’s $6 billion goal, more than 90% of the gifts have been $1,000 or less.
Each of us plays an important role in the continued success of USC. Remember, big accomplishments begin with small acts. Whether you live in Southern California, or anywhere in the world, there are a variety of opportunities to enrich your life and deepen your connection with our Trojan Family!
