About

The USC Asian Pacific Alumni Association (formerly the Asian Pacific American Support Group) connects and supports USC Alumni of Asian Pacific (encompassing ethnicities from Asia and the Pacific Rim) origin/descent with the university and one another lifelong and worldwide through meaningful and relevant programs.

The APAA board of directors is comprised of three main committees focusing on signature events, networking events and scholarship awards. To learn more about a committee or to get involved, please see "how to get involved".

The Asian Pacific American Support Group (APASG) was originally founded by Irene Hirano MPA'73, Frank Kwan'71, Kenneth Kasamatsu'68, Alan Kumamoto (1st APASG President), Dennis Kunisaki, Mary Kurushima, Michael Matsuda '82, Sarah Miyahira and Karen Wong JD '86. Chartered in 1982, the APASG organized alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends who were committed to quality services to Asian Pacific American undergraduates at USC.

From its inception, the APASG has built a strong relationship with the office of Asian Pacific American Student Services (APASS), which coordinates and develops programs to meet a range of needs of Asian Pacific students. The first director of the APASS was J.D. Hokoyama, who originated many of the programs still in operation today. Since 1984, the APASG has annually distributed $35,000 to $40,000 in scholarships to students of Asian and Pacific Islander heritage.
