BAA STUDENT SCHOLARS - INTRODUCTION
Our scholars had the foresight and
discipline to take all the right steps. They have demonstrated
wisdom by turning from destructive paths to reach for constructive
goals. Our scholars come from loving two parent homes, single parent
homes, and homelessness. They are as diverse in the experiences that
brought them to USC as are the hues that make up our culture. But
our scholars do have one thing in common. They successfully entered
into USC and are thriving. They are best described by a line from
the personal statement of scholar Eric Johnson: "I am a person
on a mission, someone hungry for knowledge and it is imperative that
I be true to my passion."
Our scholars' passions include film,
engineering, nursing, medicine and other careers in healthcare,
business, music, law, journalism, sports and more. They are likewise
passionate about already giving back to their communities and do so
through tutoring at local elementary schools, supporting each other
through black student organizations, and voicing our issues and
concerns in larger campus forums such as student government and the
Daily Trojan.
For the 2006-2007 academic year, over fourty-six (46) scholarships, were awarded to students of African and African-American descent through the USC Black Alumni Association. |
