BAA STUDENT SCHOLARS' - PROFILES & BIOS

Jamila Marston

Date of Birth: 02/03/1986
Year in School: 4th Year (Senior)
Major: Sociology/Psychology

Why did you choose USC:
I chose USC because it is among the top ranked universities within the nation. Also I thought it was a perfect fit for me after I decided that I could not take the coldness associated with Syracuse University. Further more SC is merely an hour away from my immediate family and I have other family members within the area.

Favorite Memory:
My childhood in general

Favorite Quote:
“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”

Person most influenced by and why?
My mother because she has always encouraged and believed in whatever I set forth to do. Also she has been through much but has never given up, never allowing herself to be defeated.

Short Bio (Tell us a little bit about yourself):
My name is Jamila Sikudhani Marston, which means Beautiful Surprise. I am the second youngest child and youngest daughter of my family. I am currently a senior, double majoring in Sociology and Psychology. With these degrees I plan to pursue higher education obtaining my masters and then PhD as a Forensic/Clinical Psychologist whom will eventually work within the F.B.I. I enjoy life and love my family dearly. In my spare time I enjoy participating in community service projects through mentoring and tutoring as well as merely being a community volunteer. I also like to learn new things, hang out with family and friends having fun doing whatever, listen to music, watch sports, run track, and especially eat; which would have to be my favorite activity of all.

How do you plan to contribute to society/community?
I plan to contribute to society by making a difference. I want to better myself, putting myself in the position to help better others. Once I succeed I want to contribute back to other youth just as BAA has done for me.

Please tell us how BAA has contributed to your academic/personal success and/or aspirations?
BAA has contributed to my academic and personal success in a variety of ways. The main way BAA has contributed to my success is that it has helped me pursue higher education through the scholarship I have received. Also BAA has provided a great networking environment where I have been able to meet current and former scholars, faculty and staff, alumni, as well as all others associated with BAA.
