Spring 08 Committee Pilot Program

USC Lambda Gay + Lesbian Alumni Association is forming its first-ever planning committees and we need your help! Lambda Planning Committees are a low-responsibility/ high impact way for you to support LGBT life at the university that helped make you the person you are today.

Why Have Committees?
USC Lambda is at an inflection point – transitioning from a single-mission association as a scholarship provider to a multipurpose organization. We need the help of our community to ensure this growth is strategic and purposeful.

What Would My Responsibilities Be?
This is a pilot program lasting from February through mid-May. In that time you will be asked to attend 2-4 meetings and work no more than 2-4 extra hours per month. In May you meet with all committee members and help plan for the future. Specific committee responsibilities are include below.

What Can I Hope to Gain from the Experience?
New friends. A role in USC Lambda’s historic evolution. Experience on a steering committee. A rekindled fire for your alma mater.

How Do I Sign Up?
Please email the respective committee chair of the committee you are interested in joining. Each committee is holding an orientation meeting in February.

Membership and Events Committee

Membership is what drives the Lambda Alumni Association -- after all, with no members, well, we wouldn't have an association. So, we are the committee that works to entice as many gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered USC alumni to join our group as possible. We do this by hosting fun events such as mixers, cultural excursions, outings (no, not that kind... the going someplace kind!), etc. As a committee member, the "etc." is up to you -- we need your ideas and energy to make our organization even more vibrant, exciting and fun!

This committee meets on an as-needed basis, and otherwise conducts business via email and telephone, to allow for your busy schedules.

Development Committee

Who says fundraising can't be FUN? Got experience, skills or the desire to jump in and help Lambda raise much-needed funding for scholarships, programs and activities- Then this is just the right opportunity for you. Meet other dynamic and energetic LGBT Trojans as we develop our strategy to create effective, varied and sustaining fundraisers throughout the year. The USC universe has a vast range of resources to help our committee achieve these important goals, but we need YOU to be a success!

Scholarship Committee

The Scholarship Committee does one of the most important functions of the USC Lambda Gay + Lesbian Alumni Association - give out scholarships to current and incoming students! There are a number of well deserving LGBT Trojan students and their supportive allies and you can help USC Lambda recognize their accomplishments by volunteering with the Scholarship Committee. Activities include outreach to students and marketing for the scholarships; reviewing applications and voting on the winners; and planning the Annual Scholarship Reception.
