USC Logomark

Greetings Lambda Family!

It's been almost a year since the official relaunch of USC Lambda, and how we've grown! With our new board, some thoughtful planning and support from the Alumni Association, USC Lambda is beginning to reach out and connect with our diverse LGBT alumni community as never before.

Our monthly mixers are popping up all around LA, and community events such as the AIDS Walk, Habitat for Humanity and Frontrunners are bringing both new and longtime members back to USC Lambda. Our Homecoming party this past year drew the largest crowd ever, and next year promises to be even bigger. And thanks to the generosity of some very caring donors, USC Lambda has added an additional scholarship in memory of the School of Cinematic Arts staff member, Don Thompson, which is being awarded for the first time this year!

To continue the great progress we've made, we'd like to invite every single USC Lambda alum on this email list to re-join or join for the first time, and make YOUR alumni association more complete. With over 300,000 current USC alums, even a conservative estimate should put USC Lambda's potential membership at 15-20,000! And yet we only have 1,500 names on our list. To better reach out and connect with our true membership base, we need your support, feedback and participation.

Just contact our Alumni Association Campus Liaison, JP Karliak at lambda@alumnicenter.usc.edu. Join a committee and get involved with events, fundrasing, scholarships, or send us your favorite USC Lambda photos.

Please make this the year to get involved and support whatever issues, committees or events you care about. Get inspired and help us create even better social and professional networking opportunities for our entire community!

In the Spotlight: Amy Ross

While the combined generosity of many different Lambda alums and friends ensure that both our LGBT scholarship support and our endowment continue to grow, one of our alums in particular has made exceptional contributions during this past year. As a founding member of Lambda back in 1993, Amy Ross has been a key player throughout our history, and endows her own Lesbian Health Studies scholarship annually. When her good friend Don Thompson from the School of Cinematic Arts passed away last summer, Amy rallied a group of friends to honor Don's work and leadership as an openly gay staff member and mentor with a memorial scholarship. Thanks to Amy's efforts, Lambda now has four named scholarships to offer USC students annually!

In addition to scholarship advocacy, Amy hosted a private planned giving/development dinner at her home last October. It was an opportunity for some long-time Lambda alums and supporters to hear about new developments in the organization and consider various annuity, bequest and stock transfer options that benefit both Lambda and the donor. This is the kind of inspiring leadership and support that benefits all Lambda alums and ensures a strong, healthy and vibrant future for our association. Thank you, Amy!
