Thank you for your interest in serving the University of Southern California and the Trojan Family!

Before submitting a nomination (for someone else) or application (for self), we ask all nominators and interested candidates to familiarize themselves with the USC Alumni Association, the Board of Governors, and member service expectations outlined below.

Should you have any additional questions about the opportunity to serve on the Board of Governors, you can direct them to Alexandra Brown at alex.brown@usc.edu.

Organizational Mission and Structure

The mission of the USC Alumni Association (USCAA) is to forge lifelong and worldwide connections, to support the University through engagement, volunteerism, and philanthropy, and to uphold the promise of the Trojan Family. The USC Alumni Association Board of Governors (BOG) is an advisory board to the USCAA, and members serve as ambassadors to promote the advancement of the university and engage alumni of all ages and backgrounds.

The USC Alumni Association Board of Governors is comprised of 60-65 members representing each of the USCAA’s major constituent groups, as well as all of the university’s major academic units.

Members are appointed for one to three-year terms.

Board leadership includes three officers: President, President-Elect or Past President, and Secretary.

In addition to the officers, there are a minimum of twelve (12) and a maximum of twenty-four (24) at-large Board of Governors members, a minimum of four (4) and maximum of eight (8) special appointees, and Alumni Representatives as aforementioned.

Roles and Responsibilities

Members shall remain informed of current University issues and events, as well as the Association’s programs and opportunities, in order to facilitate alumni interest and create and maintain engaged and active alumni lifelong and worldwide.

Members are required to attend 75% of the board meetings that occur within the fiscal year (outlined below).

Members are required to participate in at least one alumni event on campus and/or in their region each University semester, inclusive of Alumni Leaders Weekend programming (Fall) and Alumni Awards (Spring).

Members are assigned to a committee and shall fully participate in the meetings and activities of their assigned committee.

Members are required to make an annual gift to the University. Qualifying gifts include any donation to a University school, program, activity, organization or fund recognized by the Association, and the annual total must be at least equal to or greater than the current value of one unit of undergraduate tuition (For the 2025-2026 academic year one unit of tuition is $2,467). The minimum for alumni age 35 or lower is one-fourth the current value of one unit of undergraduate tuition (For the 2025-2026 academic year one quarter-unit of tuition is $616), and the student representatives are exempt from the financial support requirement.

Members shall sign a statement of intention to comply with the requirements set forth in the USCAA Bylaws prior to commencing any term.

All leaders with the USCAA are required to complete a volunteer agreement, acknowledging University Code of Conduct, upon the start of each fiscal year/term.

All community members are required to uphold USC’s Unifying Values and Integrity and Accountability Code.
