What is USC Summer SCend Off?
Summer SCend Off is a special Trojan tradition where alumni, parents and friends host welcome events for new students and their families as they begin their USC journeys.
When and where are SCend Offs?
SCend Offs are hosted across the U.S. and around the world in communities where new USC students live, from July 12 – Aug. 10, 2025.
How can I become a host?
Complete a host application by May 15, and wait for confirmation by May 20 before planning your event. If this is your first time hosting a SCend Off, we recommend registering to attend an informational session on April 30.
Who do I contact for additional information?
Reach out to Norma Reyes, assistant director of regional and engagement programs.
Planning Your SCend Off
Where should I host a SCend Off?
Most SCend Offs are hosted in private homes for a warm atmosphere, but public venues like parks, restaurants or community centers are also appropriate. When identifying a venue, please ensure it offers easy access, ample parking and space for at least 40 guests (in major cities).
How will students and families sign up? Is my address shared publicly?
The USC Alumni Association manages all registration for domestic SCend Offs and provides hosts with an attendee list two weeks before the event. Only confirmed and registered guests receive the host’s address, a week prior to your SCend Off.
Who covers the costs?
Hosts are responsible for any venue costs and providing light food and drinks. Financial assistance is available upon request for domestic SCend Offs. Hosts cannot charge attendees a fee to attend.
What should I serve?
We recommend scheduling your SCend Off at a time that doesn’t require a full meal. Good options are:
- Morning | 10 a.m. – noon: Coffee, juice and pastries
- Afternoon | 2 – 4 p.m.: Soft drinks, snacks and dessert
- Early Evening | 4 – 6 p.m.: Soft drinks and light appetizers
Summer SCend Offs are alcohol- and marijuana-free events.
What activities should I plan?
Hosts will be provided with an event toolkit with a sample event timeline and talking points. Plan to:
- Personally greet each guest.
- Provide nametags with students’ major and USC graduation year.
- Introduce students and families to your USC traditions!
- Encourage students to sign up for USC’s Student Alumni Society.
- Take lots of photos, and share using #USCAlumni and #FightOn!
