Over the past 50 years, the USC Latino Alumni Association (LAA) has awarded more than $24.5 million in scholarships to 10,000 USC students who promote and/or advocate for the Latino/Hispanic community.

LAA provides partial-tuition scholarships to USC undergraduate and graduate students who promote and/or advocate for the Latino/Hispanic community. Graduate scholarships are for master’s candidates only; limited awards for EdD, law, medical, PA, PT, OT, and doctor, of pharmacy students are also available.

Scholarship awards per academic year range from $2,000 to $5,000 for undergraduate students, and $500 to $5,000 for graduate students.

Scholarship Application for the 2025-26 Academic Year

Eligibility

Note the USC LAA application will be available late December early January! The LAA Scholarship Committee considers a number of factors in a student’s application, including USC activities and service. The committee may give positive consideration to students who are advocates for the Latino/Hispanic community, as well as leadership aptitude and exceptional academic and professional potential.

Scholarship applicants must be enrolled as full-time students: undergraduate students must complete a minimum of 12 units per semester with a 3.0 cumulative GPA, while graduate students must complete a minimum of 6 units per semester with a cumulative 3.0 GPA.

Please note: incoming freshmen, transfer or graduate students can apply while being considered for admission to USC.

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of need and/or merit. A needs assessment and overall financial aid package will be evaluated to determine the amount of assistance provided by the LAA. The submission deadline is April 1, 2025.

Requirements

Undergraduate students awarded and LAA scholarship must complete various requirements such as attending the LAA Scholars Retreat, professional development workshops, volunteer service/involvement with USC Latino Alumni Association during the academic year. Scholars must also register with the USC Career Center – ConnectSC. Undergraduate scholarships renew automatically each year if the student fulfills the requirements each academic year and maintains a 3.0 GPA.

Graduate students must reapply each year for the LAA Scholarship and must complete limited USC LAA requirements during the academic year. LAA applications are available in late December of each year and the deadline to submit the application is April 1, 2025.

Scholars receive 50% of their award during the fall semester and 50% in the spring semester.

• USC Moysset Family Endowed Scholarship – This scholarship is for students pursuing degrees in Education – open to undergraduate, graduate and EdD students. (apply via the USC LAA Undergraduate or LAA Graduate application link for consideration – there is not a separate application).
• USC Annie Villalobos Hernandez Endowed Scholarship – This scholarship is for students pursuing degrees in Education – open to undergraduate and graduate students only (apply via the USC LAA Undergraduate or LAA Graduate application link for consideration – there is not a separate application).
• Notifications will be sent out in August of 2025.
• Note: One Letter of Recommendation is required from a professor, counselor, advisor, or work supervisor, etc – details in the application.
• All decisions by the LAA Scholarship Committee are final and irrevocable.

Scholarship Review Committee

The USC Latino Alumni Association seeks volunteers to review student scholarship submissions each year. All alumni who have graduated two or more years ago are eligible to apply to be a part of the Scholarship Review Committee. All committee members are required to attend a training session. Check back in the spring for opportunities to participate on this committee in 2025.

This fund supports students pursuing studies in education at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level.

LAA Law Scholarship Fund

This fund was created in partnership with La Raza Law Students Association. It supports law students entering the third year of their program.

Felipe Plascencia Exceptional Funding Endowed (for current USC Scholars only)

This fund provides financial support to current USC LAA Scholars so they may participate in educational and professional opportunities not covered by financial aid, including travel to conferences, business attire and professional association memberships.
