Honoring Our Roots and Giving Thanks

LAA family, we hope you and your loved ones are well. This year has certainly been one we could not have anticipated. However, as Trojans, we know how to Fight On! Working remotely since mid-March, we have been led to discover new ways to do the things we have always done. We are reimagining how we continue to support USC LAA scholars via professional development, while also providing opportunities for alumni and friends to engage with USC in vital and meaningful ways.

We are pleased to unveil this new look for our quarterly newsletter. Its name, Troyano News, pays homage to our roots by reclaiming the name used for our newsletter in the 1980s.

Like so many others, we were unsure what effect the pandemic would have on our ability to fulfill our mission. We are pleased to share that thanks to your support, along with our six fully funded endowments, we have awarded $804,775 in scholarships to 267 students. This is on par with what we have awarded in other years. We are also now able to provide exceptional funding to our scholars for educational and professional activities not covered by financial aid.

Our programming has also gone virtual.  This has allowed us to continue connecting with students, while offering alumni and friends the chance to participate in events, regardless of where they are. We were able to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and to partner with campus colleagues to offer relevant and meaningful webinars.

Our work continues—students need us now more than ever. Each of us has work to do to effect change in our communities and speak out against what is unjust. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to connecting with each of you—albeit virtually for the time being.
