Olivier Bernard MS ’91

What motivated you to take on this leadership role?
USC shaped the trajectory of my life — professionally and personally. It gave me the opportunity to build a life in a new country and provided the education, network and confidence to pursue a career across industries and constantly evolving technologies. Over time, I realized that being a Trojan is not just a benefit you carry with you after graduation; it becomes part of your identity and what you stand for. With that identity comes a responsibility to uphold the tradition and help strengthen the community for the next generation.

I am also deeply passionate about education and knowledge‑sharing. Over time, I hope to give back by contributing to programs focused on business strategy, AI for business, and the practical applications of emerging technologies. Whether through guest speaking, mentoring or eventually teaching, helping people translate technological change into real business outcomes is something that truly energizes me.

Silicon Valley is one of the most dynamic ecosystems in the world, sitting at the intersection of AI, cloud computing, robotics and entrepreneurship. I see this role as an opportunity to connect Trojans across that landscape — from founders and engineers to investors, strategists, and students just beginning their journeys.

What motivates me is building a community where people actively support one another’s success. The strongest networks are never transactional; they are built on curiosity, mentorship, shared learning and generosity. That is the spirit I hope to bring to this role.

What are you most looking forward to as co-chair?
What excites me most is creating opportunities for Trojans to connect in meaningful and supportive ways, grounded in a shared pride in our USC heritage.

Silicon Valley moves quickly, and people are often deeply focused on their companies and projects. Too often, there is little time to step back and exchange ideas across industries, roles or generations. I hope to create more opportunities for that kind of cross-pollination — bringing together engineers and entrepreneurs, students and executives and those building the future alongside those who have already navigated multiple waves of technological change.

If we do this well, the USC Silicon Valley Trojan Network can become a force multiplier for every Trojan’s professional and personal growth — a place where alumni come not only to reconnect but to learn, challenge ideas and build the future together.

What’s something about you that others might not know?
Outside of my work in technology strategy, music is where I recharge. I play keyboards in a rock band called Midnight Crisis, a name inspired by the fact that, with our busy lives, late nights are often the only time we can afford to practice. Our setlist spans everything from 80s new wave to 90s rock.

To further bring balance to my life, I am also a Black Belt in Taekwondo and serve as the lead instructor at my local studio. It is something my entire family practices as well, and I deeply enjoy helping develop young students, both mentally and physically, instilling discipline, strength and integrity.
Bonus track, I have been known to teach people how to safely jump from perfectly good airplanes …

What does USC mean to you, and what do you hope to achieve as co-chair?

USC represents a lifelong commitment to “Think Big” — the opportunity, ambition and a mindset of building things that matter.

As co-chair, I hope we can create a Silicon Valley Trojan Network that reflects those values. A place where alumni can share knowledge, support each other’s ventures, mentor younger Trojans and stay connected to the incredible momentum of the university.

We’re already thinking about programs that bring together technology leaders, entrepreneurs and students to talk about the biggest transformations happening right now, from AI and robotics to the future of business and our society.

Our goal is simple: build a community that is welcoming, intellectually curious, safe and genuinely helpful to one another, and of course, we want all of this, while having fun doing it!
