Solomon Davis ’25

Social Media Specialist, Meyer Sound

I’m the Social Media Specialist at Meyer Sound, a loudspeaker manufacturer based in Berkeley, California. In this role, I oversee our social media platforms, monitoring performance while curating and creating the content we share across our social media channels.

One Thing You’re Working On Right Now:

One thing I’m working on right now is a cookbook. Cooking and sharing meals with friends and family have always been among my greatest joys, so it felt natural to combine that passion with my love of photography and content creation. It’s a project I’m aiming to finish by the end of this year or early next year.

Tell us about a pivot, setback or unexpected turn in your career and what you learned from it.

My career journey has taken a few meaningful turns. After earning my undergraduate degree in Radio, Television, and Film (RTVF) from San Jose State University, I began freelancing as a videographer and photographer while also working in the concert industry as a concert photographer and a backstage production and hospitality assistant for touring artists. Not long after, COVID-19 disrupted the entertainment industry, bringing much of the work I relied on to a standstill and putting many opportunities on pause.

In 2021, I moved to Los Angeles to continue pursuing production work, where I got my start in reality TV and game shows as a production assistant in the camera department. A few years later, amid industry-wide strikes, I decided to pivot and return to school. That decision led me to the University of Southern California, where I pursued a master’s degree in Digital Media Management at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.

During my time at USC, I refined my skills as a digital creator while also strengthening my understanding of marketing and brand building in the digital space. I connected with peers who came from similar paths as well as a wide range of professional backgrounds, which highlighted just how flexible and far-reaching this field is across industries, including the one I work in today.

As my program was coming to a close, I was contacted by a former colleague from the concert industry who had since joined Meyer Sound as an Education Director. She referred me for a Social Media Specialist role, and I was fortunate to both apply and secure the position.

I believe a major factor in my success today comes from the knowledge I gained at USC, combined with the relationships I’ve built and maintained throughout my career. That combination of hands-on experience, continued learning, and strong professional connections continues to shape how I grow and show up in my work today.

If you could go back and give your USC-self one piece of advice about using your time there, what would it be?

If I could offer one piece of advice, it would be something I wish I had heard much earlier in my adult life: focus on networking across, not just up. While most people understand the value of networking, there’s often a tendency to concentrate only on those in positions we aspire to reach. But building relationships with your peers, people who are growing, learning, and pushing forward alongside you, is just as important.

This mindset was strongly reinforced during my time pursuing my master’s degree at USC, where I saw firsthand how meaningful peer connections can be. Those relationships have continued to grow with me, evolving into collaborations, opportunities, and a trusted network of support.

Looking back, I can confidently say that investing in those connections has been one of the most valuable decisions I’ve made. The people you grow with today often become the ones you build with tomorrow!

What does a typical day in your role actually look like?

A day in the life of a social media specialist at Meyer Sound rarely looks the same, and that’s easily one of the best parts of the role. On any given day, I’m creating content for our social channels while also coordinating approvals with both internal teams and external partners for upcoming posts. Content creation is a huge part of what I do, so there are plenty of moments where I’m moving through the factory with a camera, capturing everything from assembly line production to educational trainings and behind-the-scenes moments during factory tours.

Another key aspect of my role is helping elevate and communicate our presence at major industry events like NAMM, InfoComm, USITT, and more. These moments are an opportunity to showcase not just our technology, but the people and innovation behind it. During festival season, I sometimes get the chance to step outside the factory and into the field, attending concerts and festivals to document how our systems come to life in real-world environments. Being able to capture the energy and audience experience at events like Outside Lands, especially as a Bay Area native, adds another layer of meaning to the work.

Travel has always been something I’ve wanted to be a part of my career, and Meyer Sound has given me the flexibility and creative space to do that while continuing to grow as both a content creator and a social media specialist. At the end of the day, it’s about telling authentic stories that connect people to our top-tier audio solutions.
