Assad Oberai leads the USC Viterbi School of Engineering’s Computation and Data Driven Discovery Group, which designs, implements and applies data-and physics-based models and algorithms to tackle problems in engineering and science. These include the need for better detection, diagnosis and care for diseases like cancer, as well as understanding the role of mechanics and physics in medicine and biology. In 2023, Oberai was named a Fellow of the American Academy of Mechanics, a prestigious honor only presented to one individual each year. He currently serves on the editorial boards of three journals, including Plos One, a peer-reviewed open access mega journal published by the Public Library of Science.
